Covina Police Department visits the Covina Sunrise Rotary!

This week, we heard from Captain Ryan Davis and Sergeant Mike Colburn, who unveiled their new drone program, with a mounted station atop the police station to be first responders and chase drones for crimes in the entire Covina area. With a response time of 2 minutes, they said, it would allow the department to help indiviuals in need, asses the situation, and gather information about the situation as soon as possible. Captain Davis also discussed the Police department's new survailance camera program, where residents can enroll their cameras into a database so that if a crime is commited in the area of cameras at your home or business, the department can reach out to you for access for the footage instead of canvassing the area one by one and asking for access, it makes it easier for officers to get the footage they need to help arrest or find the criminal. They also advertised, mainly for businesses, a program to enroll camera systems to be used by the RTIC (Real Time Information Center) at the police department to make it easier for officers to catch criminals that extra video/picture evidence without having to call business owners to access their systems, instead linking them directly to the database. It was a very nice talk on how we can keep our community safe, as well as how new technology is improving the lives of officers and the safety of the citizens of Covina better.
